Second Future 4.0 project Main Output: “FUTURE 4.0 Platform”

Advances in Additive Manufacturing, Big data & Analytics, Cyber Security, Advanced Manufacturing, Cloud Computing and Augmented Reality all fall under the larger IoT umbrella. The growth and the adoption of these technologies are continually transforming the digital economy and are generating the demand of high skilled personnel that can solve complex problems and promote business development.

However, the manufacturing industry faces major challenges in the field of industrial learning because current teaching curricula covers only basic engineering skills. Thus, it is vital for Small and Medium Enterprises to qualify workers with the necessary skills in order to assess and implement the technological innovations. The manufacturers should invest on internal training programs and integrate the six digital technologies to add relevance and support employees to improve their digital talent. To this direction, the adaptation of the educational content and delivery mechanism to meet the new manufacturing needs is required.

In order to sustain the technological transition of the manufacturing sector, and promote the promote the interaction between learners and technological-based environments, Project Partners, under the coordination of the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) of the University of Patras (GR) developed a manufacturing oriented and user friendly Knowledge Delivery Hub “FUTURE 4.0 Platform”.

The FUTURE 4.0 Platform constitutes a state-of-the-art software platform that is able to integrate any external knowledge online services and applications presented to the user as the front-end. It ensures the availability and fruition of teaching materials and related methodology Teaching Factory, trough 6 completed courses on 6 Learning Topics (Cyber Security, Augmented Reality, Big Data and Analytics, Advanced Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, Cloud Computing), classified into three main Smart Learning Model Levels: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and the learning is focused on building expertise as well as experience in the chosen area of practice.
